I’ve been hearing helicopters and jets for about 30 minutes. Then, just a few minutes ago, I heard an unmistakable burping sound and knew that A-10s were in the area firing their cannons. Normally, hearing that sound here in suburbia would be so disturbing that it’d be the topic of conversation for weeks but given everything else that’s happened so far today, I don’t know if anyone will even mention it if we make it out of this.
I’m guessing the A-10s weren’t too effective since I just heard some massive explosions (bombing runs or the jets getting shot down?) in the same direction. I was hunkering down in case a stray bomb hit in my neighborhood but I think they’re done now. I’m thinking I might not be able to wait until darkness to get out of here. It’s just getting too dangerous.
After the explosions I took a quick look outside. I can see the tripod still in or near the river. These things are tall. Really tall. I think they can probably telescope their legs to some extent and they seem to be able to make their legs rigid or flexible at will.
Looks like people are splitting into two categories: people packing everything they own into their cars and rushing to get caught in the parking lot that used to be the interstate system and those who are hunkering down at home. The tripods are too close to make either of those very attractive to me.
Oh…it sounds like the tripod(s) are back to blowing shit up. I don’t know if it’s the bridges over the Delaware or Trenton (or both) but it doesn’t sound good.
