I’ve mentioned this before but given our recent election and the groundswell of interest in political matters among my fellow citizens may I again recommend the Yes, Minister/Yes, Prime Minister TV series as an excellent primer to the political process. It does a wonderful job of demonstrating why a head of government (even a popular one) might have difficulty getting things done and the tradeoffs that have to be made. While it is a satire and almost 30 years old, it speaks to many deeper truths and remains relevant (if you can get past the bad hair styles, interior design and British accents).
